My grandmother, Edith Giddens Davis, and her daughters, Betty and Janet - about 1935. |
Browsing through my grandmother's photos to write this post, I thought about her strength as a mother isolated in New York City, without family nearby, and my grandfather often working away from home.
This reflection on my grandmother's situation led me to appreciate my own mother's similar resilience. My father served in the US Navy and was frequently absent, but my mother's unyielding strength held our family together.
Happy Mother's Day to all those mothers reading this blog, and a special Happy Mother's Day to my own mother!
