Friday's Photo: Mitchell Alonzo Giddens

Mitchell Alonzo Giddens was the son of my great-great-grandfather, George L. Giddens, and his second wife, Sarah Rich. He was born in Duplin County, North Carolina on September 18, 1900.

Friday's Photo: Fieldman

This is another photo from the Frye family collection. On the back is Fieldman, Louise's boy, age 18, six-feet tall, and 175 pounds. I searched for Fieldman and Louise in Louisiana without success. If you know the identity of this handsome young man, comment below or leave a message on my Facebook page.

Friday's Photo: The Bienville Parish Home Demonstration Council

Myrtice Vinson
Bienville Parish Home Demonstration Agent

County (Parish) Home Demonstration Councils were first formed in 1924. The principal objectives of the county home demonstration councils were to develop leadership and to forward and extend home demonstration work among both women and girls through county-wide cooperation with all rural homemakers. These councils also served as a medium through which the local Home Demonstration Agent received information from community clubs and gave additional help to rural homemakers.

The first meeting of the Bienville Parish Home Demonstration Club was on Friday, January 26, 1934.

The article below describes the location and those women expected at the first meeting. These photos were probably not taken during that first meeting as the women are wearing clothing meant for warmer weather than expected in January. Additional photos, along with enlarged portions of the photos can be seen below. Any help naming the women in the photos is appreciated.

Found at Newspapers.com

Mrs. C. J. Frye was a representative on the council during the first meeting and I am assuming she is in one of these photos as they were found in the Frye Family Collection.

This photo was labeled Home Demonstration Council. Mrs. J. A. Roane.
