The Bible contained all sorts of treasures;
newspaper clippings, photos, certificates, a lock of hair,
fabric from my grandmother’s wedding dress, and a picture of this house.
The House in Seymour, Texas |
My father, Whit Criswell Bryan, 1921 |
Hairston "Buster" Albritton Bryan |
According to 1920 census records, the house was on River Street and near Arkansas Street. The Amon Carter Museum website has a birds-eye-view of Seymour in 1890. River Street was beside the Brazos River and was parallel to Arkansas Street.
I will post more about the house in the next two
posts. If readers familiar with my family or with Seymour have any information
about the house, please post your comments to the blog or send me an e-mail at dewquinn@aol.com.

Those are nice photos.Did the Criswell family have any connections to the Criswell property near Snyder?
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the Criswell family in Snyder. There is a good possibility that they are connected. My Criswells were in Cherokee County, TX prior to moving to Falls County. Some stayed in Falls County, but there were quite a few of them. Did the Criswells in Snyder have a ranch? I recently read about a Criswell ranch in or new Baylor County.
ReplyDeleteHi! I have given this blog site link to Jimmie Sue (Wood) Loran. Her parents bought this house for her and my husband's cousin, Joe Pat Snyder in the late '70's. The house had belonged to a family named Henson, and the two sisters lived in it for a long time, with one of them marrying and the other, an "old spinster" living there until her death. Jimmie Sue and Joe Pat lived two doors down. The house was totally overgrown and falling down from years of neglect. The house address is actually 511 North Arkansas. When Joe Wood brought the property, it was two lots, going the width of the block ; two corners. There
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am very interested in her home. The history of the Hensons ownership doesn't match with my Bryan family home. Either the homes were from the same plan or my picture is not the Bryan home. If it was not the Bryan home, many of my family pictures would have been taken at the Henson home :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the Henson house in 2001 and several in Seymour with the same or similar roof lines. I need to do a lot of deed research which means coming to Seymour. Thanks so much for your help!
