  1. Thank you very much for doing all this research. Oscar is my great-grandfather. My grandmother was Margaret Louise. She had a photo of him on her living room wall along with his shellback certificate from the US Navy. When I was growing up, I heard all sorts of stories about his exploits in the Navy. Seeing the timeline, I'm not sure all of them are true.

  2. Thank you for your comment. I love doing the research and finding the stories behind my photos. The stories about his exploits may have been real. He was in both WWI and WWII. With the exception of Key West, his residence always appeared to have been 58 Ranney Street. However, he could have been away from home much of that time.

    1. The stories she told of Oscar and his son George (who was also in WW2) were a large reason why I ended up joining the Navy. I remember back when I was very young she took me and my sister (Tracey Stevens) down to Florida to visit some of her childhood friends. Last night I did a Google Map search for her house in Key West. That lot is now the site of the Post Office and Customs House. It would have been great to see the house. Oh well.

Thanx again for all your work.

    2. I didn’t look for the house in Key West. That would have been fun to see. However, I did find the house on Ranney Street on Zillow – It was built in 1875. Your great-grandmother’s family lived in that house as early as 1913, if not before. I found a lot in directories naming her Muir and Stiles families. Check the Facebook page tomorrow. I will try to add a link to a shared folder. Not everything is in the timeline.
