Tucked into my mother’s military scrapbook was this brochure for the State University of New York Institute of Agriculture and Home Economics at Cobleskill, NY. My mother studied there before joining the Navy, and her sister, my Aunt Janet, also studied there.
Aunt Janet marked the photo herself, with a handwritten “me” and an arrow pointing to her among the greenhouse flowers. Beneath it, she noted that the woman beside her was Chris Taufer, a student there the year before.
The brochure dates to about 1953 and promises “free tuition to New York State residents.” The school is still going today as SUNY Cobleskill.
