Friday's Photo: The James M. Frye Family of Northwest Louisiana

Front - Hattie Frances, James M. Frye, Alvin Cornelius, Josephine "Josie" Hays Frye, and Mineola
Back - Mary Annie Elizabeth, Thomas Jefferson, Lorenzer Lee, Charles Walter

This  photo came from the Frye family collection. Don't you wish all photos came with this kind of recorded information! Place of birth, married names, and birth and death dates were included on the back for most of these family members.

The youngest child, Mineola Frye, was born in 1888. Judging from her size, she was probably about two or three years old. This would give the photo a date of about 1890 or 1891.

According to the information on the back of this photo, this looks like the James Michel Frye family. HOWEVER, according to 126 family trees at Ancestry.com (including mine), it is the James Mitchell Frye family. BUT, not any of the Public Member Trees showed that his middle name was Mitchell. On all resources identified in the trees, his name was James Frye (or Fry) or James M. Frye (Fry).

DON'T remove Mitchell from your family tree yet. Mitchell was James M. Frye's mother's maiden name. SO, I did a Google search and found two James Mitchell Fryes in the Confederate Pension Application Index Database at the Louisiana Secretary of State website.

If this were my family, I would order the pension record. If you have this pension record or any other record pertaining to James M. Frye and his family, please share so that it can be added to a tree at Ancestry.com or FamilySearch.

Thank you to the Frye family for sharing this photo and others! I have written about Hattie Frye previously. Check out this 2017 post - Friday's Photo: William "Bill" Evans and Hattie Frye.

Written sideways in pencil: Two other infant boys, Benjamin Franklin and Albert died. Buried at Salem cemetery between Athens and Acadia. HOWEVER, I only found infants, Andrew F. Frye and James A. Frye, buried in the Salem Cemetery along with numerous Hays family members.
